What is RE:CONVERT?

As you may have already noticed, this is a blog devoted to Japanese lyrics and translations. This site is owned and maintained by me (El), and was born out of my frustration when I couldn’t find certain song lyrics/translations on the internet. I just thought that since I’ve been studying Japanese language and since my boyfriend (Shiro) is actually fluent in the language, I could create my own collection of lyrics and translations, and that maybe I could also share it with the world. So here we are. 😀

What’s with the title?

I had trouble with thinking of a title for this blog, so Shiro suggested that we call it Re:Convert since we basically “convert” the Japanese lyrics to English. He also drew inspiration from Hatsune Miku’s “Re : Package” album.

Who does the translating?

Shiro and I both do our parts in translating/transliterating the text. Since he’s more familiar with the language, he does the base translations and points out the nuances that a non-native speaker would normally miss. I do some basic translation on my own (I often consult with him for clarifications though), and I edit the basic English translations to make them get as close to the original intention/context/meaning of the Japanese lyrics as possible.

Do you take translation requests?

Not yet. I think we ought to finish translating what we have now before we move on to taking requests.

Hey, this word means _____, but you wrote the meaning down as ____!

Well, the idea is to get as close to the context/meaning as possible, and that doesn’t necessarily mean translating the words literally. That’s the beauty (and the challenge) of translating lyrics. :p
